ThinkPad Tablet Up for Preorder Starting at $500

Lenovo's ThinkPad Tablet has hit preorder status carrying a $500 price tag.

HP's $99 fire sale might have convinced you you needed a tablet after all (who can resist at those prices?) but bringing us back down to Earth with a bump is Lenovo's ThinkPad Tablet. The ThinkPad Tablet is now available online from Lenovo with an expected ship-date of August 29 -- that's next Monday. Of course, the pricing isn't anywhere near as good as what you'd get during a fire sale; the tablet starts at $500 for the 16GB Wi-Fi-only model and goes up to $670 for the 64GB 3G-equipped model. However, it's not a bad little machine, either.
The ThinkPad tablet boasts a 10.1-inch WXGA (1280X800) 16:10 IPS display, Nvidia's dual-core Tegra 2 chipset, Android 3.0 (aka Honeycomb), 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera (2-megapixel up front), support for 1080p, USB 2.0 and Mini USB, and a 3-in-1 SD card reader. Aimed more at business types, the slate's stylus even has the ThinkPad's trademark little red nub on the end. If you find you can't live without that trusty ThinkPad keyboard, you'll be able to replicate the experience with an optional case that adds an optical trackpad and keyboard. This will set you back an additional $69.
