Smaller 2.8 inch display based Android Smartphone is slated towards a launch scheduled for later this year.
Korean mobile manufacturer, Samsung has announced a new 2.8 inch display based Android smartphone - Galaxy Pocket. The smaller sized device is meant for easy carrying around while not sacrificing on the functionality part as the device comes with Android Gingerbread and a capable processor to power the device.
"With the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, we are building on the features we know our customers enjoy and get the most out of. This new device adds further breadth to the choice of smartphones we currently offer and provides a smartphone experience for even more customers at an affordable price," said Simon Stanford, vice president of Samsung's UK Telecommunications and Networks Division.
Samsung Galaxy Pocket has a minimalistic size that is very easy to pocket. The device features a 2.8 inch display with a resolution of 230 x 320 pixels. It comes with Android Gingerbread 2.3 which offers maximum compatibility with applications and functionality for the users. The 832 MHz single core processor on the device makes sure that the device never runs out of breath even while multitasking.
The Galaxy Pocket offers 3 GB of user memory, which can be expanded by a SD memory card up to an additional 32 GB for applications, MP3 files and photos as well. There's an in-built FM radio which can be used to tune into your favorite radio station. The phone comes with high-speed WiFi and HSDPA 3.6 connectivity for faster data downloads and jitter free multimedia on the go.
The Galaxy Pocket features Samsung's ChatON cross-platform communication service that connects all phone users into a single community, enabling spontaneous messaging, group chatting and content sharing so users can stay in touch more easily.
The device is scheduled for a launch later this year where it will be made available to the customers of the UK region to begin with. Later, the device is expected to hit other markets and is likely to be priced close to Rs 7,000 as the Samsung Galaxy Y which presently is the cheapest Android Gingerbread smartphone.
