Samsung's belle of the ball didn't make it past day two.
Samsung proudly unveiled its new Galaxy Tab 7.7 last week at IFA, however, it seems the slate has already become the latest victim in Apple and Samsung's ongoing legal dispute. FOSS Patents reportsthat on Saturday, the second day of the show, Samsung removed all Galaxy Tab samples, including the new 7.7-inch version, and all promotional material from its booth at IFA. Samsung also removed the Galaxy Tab 7.7-inch from its German website.
It soon emerged that the drastic move was in response to a ruling from a German court. Bloombergreports that a Dusseldorf court on Friday granted Apple’s request to ban sales and marketing of the Galaxy Tab 7.7. Apple already has an injunction in place to prevent Samsung from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany. It appears that Samsung had hoped to skirt around this issue at IFA by unveiling the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with a 'NOT FOR SALE IN GERMANY' sticker on the device. Sadly, this was not enough to stop Apple seeking an injunction.
Apple and Samsung have been caught up in litigation regarding patent infringement. Apple alleges that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy S line of smartphones are infringing upon patents owned by Apple. Apple has successfully obtained injunctions to block the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany and several of the Galaxy S smartphones in many countries across Europe. Samsung and Apple are currently awaiting a hearing to see if the Galaxy Tab can be sold in Australia.
