Alcatel unveils it’s 5-inch, Quad-core One Touch Scribe HD smartphone

It seems that 2013 might be year of phablets as every flagship device we’ve heard rumors about, most probably sports a 5-inch or bigger display. Adding to the list is Alcatel’s latest announcement- the One Touch Scribe HD smartphone which features a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
The One Touch Scribe HD is powered by the newly-announced MediaTek MT6859 quad core processor which is clocked at 1.2GHz paired with 1GB of RAM. The phablet comes with 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded using a micro-SD card. The devices houses an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and also, a front facing camera which is capable of recording videos in 720p.
The phablet also houses a 2,500 mAh battery and will come with an optional capacitive stylus and some dedicated Apps such as Notebook and Movie editor to take it’s advantage. The device can be quite an attractive buy for the people who wish to have all the features which a high end phablet like the Galaxy Note 2 offers, but do not wish to spend that much.
Now, coming to the most important factor, pricing! The One Touch Scribe HD will be sold at a price of $400 in the US, which is an unlocked, SIM-free version, which is a very attractive price for a device with such specifications. The phablet will start shipping in the third quarter of this year in the US while there is no word on the availability of the device in other markets as of now.
