MWC 2017: Motorola Launches Moto G5 And Moto G5 Plus

Motorola has launched Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus in the MWC 2017 as the fifth generation of the Moto G family.

These are the first phones in the Moto G-series which come with a metal design

Moto G5 comes with a 2800 mAh battery and a 1.4 GHz octa-core processor. The phone also sports a fingerprint reader in the front.

Moto G5 includes a 13-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and a 5-megapixel front camera.

Moto G5 Plus on the other hand, comes with a 12-megapixel camera with Dual Autofocus Pixels and f/1.7 aperture.

The smartphone is powered by a 3000 mAh battery with TurboPower charging options which will deliver up to six hours of battery life in 15 minutes of cahrging, as claimed by the company.

Moto G5 Plus is powered by a 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and comes with 4G LTE support

As the additional features, Moto G5 Plus includes Moto Actions - One Button Nav, which lets users navigate through screens using the fingerprint reader.

Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will be available beginning in March in various countries across Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and North America.

Moto G5 will be available in Lunar Gray or Fine Gold.

Moto G will be sold starting at €199 (-14,000) with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Moto G5 Plus starts at $229 (-16,000) with 2GB RAM/32GB storage and €279 (-20,000) for 3GB RAM/32GB storage.

Nokia 3310 is back. Here are 5 things you need to know

The rumours were true - the iconic Nokia 3310 is back and it even has Snake. A refreshed version of the 3310, known for its simple design and a near indestructible shell, was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday.

The existence of the simple feature phone had been leaked earlier this month. The new 3310 has been brought to the market by HMD Global Oy, a Finnish company which bought the rights to the Nokia brand last year.

1. It’s priced at a €49 (around Rs 3450)

The refreshed 3310 retains an important core appeal of the original, its affordable price. The new phone will be available in Europe for 49 euros and while prices for other regions have not been announced it is expected to be in a similar bracket.

2. It has a colour display

When it comes to display technology the new phone offers a massive leap over the classic 3310; the screen has colour. A colour screen was expected as monochromatic displays have become all but obsolete. The new phone comes with a 2.4 inch with a pixel density of 120 ppi. What does that mean? The 3310 will not turn any heads with the display but it will be more than adequate.

HMD has said the polarized and curved screen window makes for better readability in sunlight.

3. No selfies, but there is a rear camera

The new device unlike it’s predecessor comes with a 2 megapixel rear camera and a LED flash. HMD says the camera can be used for “simple snaps” so don’t expect high resolution masterpieces. Tragically for social media enthusiasts there is no front camera for selfies on the new phone.

4. Snake is back

Remember Snake, that simple four button game that used to be an addictive time sink, well it is back. The new version will keep its simple 2D gameplay but will have a multicoloured art style instead of a monochrome look of old.

5. The battery lasts for days

For all the great things that modern smartphones do, they have terrible battery lives. On this front, the new 3310 harkens back to the good old days. “Remember when you could leave the house without a charger?” says the product’s official site. The phone comes with a humongous battery life that can last almost month on standby and offers 22 hours of talk time.

Moto G5 Plus launching in India on March 15

After unveiling the device yesterday at the Mobile World Congress 2017, Motorola has now confirmed that its Moto G5 Plus will hit the Indian smartphone market on March 15. Moto India's official twitter handle posted an image with a caption that read - "You either get a flaunt-worthy phone or a fast processor. #WhyCompromise when you can get both? Wait for the #MotoG5Plus. Arriving on 15/03." The company hasn't revealed the price at which it will launch the Moto G5 Plus and we also don't know if we will witness the launch of its younger sibbling, the Moto G5, at the event. 

Quickly breifing you to the specs of both the devices, the Moto G5 Plus comes with a 5.2-inch full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The phone comes in two options—2GB/32GB variant along with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage model. There is also a microSD card slot through which one can expand storage up to 128GB.

On the camera front, the device sports 12-megapixel rear camera with aperture f/1.7, 1.4-micron pixels, dual AF pixels and LED flash. For the front, there is a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. The phone is backed by 3000mAh battery and support connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC and micro USB port. The phone measures 150.2 x 74 x 9.7 mm and weighs 155 grams.

The Moto G5 on the other features a 5-inch Full HD display with a screen resolution of a 1980 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. The phone is backed by a 2GB of RAM and an option of 16GB and 32GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

In terms of optics, the Moto G5 sports a 13-megapixel with aperture f/2.0, 1.1-micron pixels and PDAF, while for the front, there is a 5-megapixel shooter. The device comes with removable 2800mAh battery coupled with 10W rapid charger and supports connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and micro USB port. The device measures 144.3 x 73 x 9.5 mm and weighs 144.5 grams.

The Finnish giant has launched another smartphone named, Nokia 5, which is more of a smaller sibling of Nokia 6 sporting the same design. The smartphone comes in four colour options such as Tempered Blue, Silver, Matte Black, Copper and will be sold for Euro 189 (approx. Rs 13,000). For the specs, Nokia 5 features a 5.2-inch 2.5D curved HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. Underneath the hood, the device will be powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, paired with Qualcomm Adreno 505 GPU. For the memory, we have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.  Running on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12-micron pixel size, dual toned LED flash while at the front we get an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, 84-degree field of view and auto focus. Powering the entire device is a 3000 mAh battery and Nokia 5 does have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. 

For connectivity, we get Micro USB (USB 2.0), USB OTG, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and GPS and for the sensors, Nokia has given in Accelerometer (G-sensor), ambient light sensor, e-compass, fingerprint sensor, Hall sensor, gyroscope and a proximity sensor. The device measures at 149.7 x 72.5 x 8.05 mm.

To cater more budget-oriented audience, Nokia has also launched, Nokia 3 which comes with an even more affordable price of Euro 139 (approx. Rs 9,700) The smartphone comes with 5-inch HD 2.5D curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. We get 1.3 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MTK 6737 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Nokia 3 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and packs in a 2650 mAh battery inside.  For the optics, we get a combination of 8-megapixel cameras on both front and back with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12-micron pixel size along with LED flash at the back and display flash at the front. For connectivity, we have Micro USB (USB 2.0), USB OTG, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC for sharing. Apart from this, we get Accelerometer (G-sensor), ambient light sensor, e-compass, fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor. The device measures at 143.4 x 71.4 x 8.48 mm

Finally! Nokia has relaunched the nostalgic 3310 feature phone. The phone will sell for Euro 49 (approx. Rs 3,400) and will come in four colour variants namely Warm Red (Glossy), Dark Blue (Matte), Yellow (Glossy), Grey (Matte). The Nokia 3310 comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen along with a decent 16GB internal storage for a feature phone. Further, this storage can be expanded up to 32GB via micro SD card. We get a 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash along with Nokia Series 30+ operating system. For the fuel, the 3310 packs a 1200 mAh battery which Nokia claims can last you 22.1 hours of talk time, 31 days of standby, 51 hours of MP3 playback and 39 hours FM radio playback. In terms of connectivity, we get Micro USB (2.0), Bluetooth 3.0 with SLAM, 3.5 mm headphone jack and 2G network connectivity. 

Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will be available for purchase sometime in Q2 2017 and is expected to enter the Indian smartphone market by May 2017.

Samsung Galaxy S8 launch date to be unveiled at MWC 2017

Samsung has already confirmed that it will not launch the Galaxy S8 during this year’s Mobile World Congress show. However, if the latest report is anything to go, the company might reveal the launch date of the upcoming flagship device during the event.

According to The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung will reveal the launch date on February 27. As per the report, Koh Dong-jin, President of Mobile Communications, Samsung, said that the "official [launch] schedule" will be unveiled during the trade show. The South Korean is scheduled to a hold a press conference where it is highly expected that the company will launch the next-gen of its tablet known as Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and we might also see a one-minute teaser of the device.

As per various reports, the Galaxy S8 will be launched at an event in New York on March 29 and will go on sale on April 21. The company is destined to launch two variants, the 5.8-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S8+ with both sporting QHD Super AMOLED and a screen-to-body ratio of about 83 percent.

Both of the devices are rumoured to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and company’s in-house Exynos 8895 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage, while it is reported that the China and Korean market will get a 6GB RAM and an option to choose between 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. A leak also claims that the former will come with a price tag of CNY 6,088 (approx. Rs 59,606) and the latter will be priced at CNY 6,488 (about Rs 63,523).

For the optics, both the variants will come with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture and 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The camera is said to come with a bunch of new features including the recently rumoured visual search capability. For the battery, the 5.8-inch variant is likely to come with 3000 mAh battery while the 6.2-inch variant will house a 3500 mAh battery.

Moto G5 and G5 Plus listed, promotional image and specs revealed

Lenovo’s Moto G5 is yet another smartphone which has been on our rumour list and it is yet another smartphone which will be unveiled at the upcoming MWC 2017. Although a lot of rumours from various sources have surfaced online so far, Evan Blass (@eveleaks) from Venture Beat has now spotted the promotional image render of both Moto G5 and G5 Plus along with some specifications which seem to be reliable given Blass’s reputation in the leak game. Both the smartphones were first listed on an e-retailer named ‘Ktronix’ listing most of the specs as well.

As per the listing, Moto G5 will come with a 5.0-inch Full HD display while Moto G5 Plus will boast a 5.2-inch Full HD display. This is in contrary to the Moto G4 and Moto G3 smartphones, both of which came with a 5.5-inch display size.

Talking about some other specifications, the Moto G5 will be powered by Snapdragon 430 processor and will come with a 13-megapixel at the back. On the other hand, Moto G5 Plus will pack in a Snapdragon 625 chipset along with a 12-megapixel primary camera at the back. Interestingly, the listing revealed 2GB RAM on both the smartphones coupled with 64GB of internal storage. Adding to this, a previous report from Weibo claimed that the Moto G5 Plus will sport a Sony IMX362 sensor inside its primary 12-megapixel camera module.

Meanwhile, another tipster, Roland Quandt recently revealed that the new Moto G series smartphones will be out for sale just after the Mobile World Congress which takes place later this month. He also released the tentative pricing of the regular Moto G5 at EUR 189 (approx. Rs 13,450) for the 2GB RAM variant, EUR 209 for the 3GB RAM variant which translates to about Rs 15,000. To compare, the Moto G4 3GB RAM variant was priced at EUR 249 last year, however, the India pricing for the new Moto G5 is expected to be lower than what has been revealed for Europe.
