Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched the highly leaked Moto M in China. The smartphone had already been listed on Chinese retailer Tmall with pricing details revealed hours before the launch. Moto M had been widely leaked revealing its specifications, looks and design, and it’s all at par with the official launch. The Moto M is priced at RMB 1,999, which is approximately Rs 20,000. The smartphone will go on sale from November 11, and users will have to first register on Motorola’s China website for purchasing the Moto M. As of now, the smartphone will be available in China only, but reports suggest that it will be launched in India soon.The Moto M flaunts a metal unibody design and comes with P2i’s nano coating which makes it resistant to splashes and light rain. After the success of its Moto Z series, Motorola has been revamping its style and design and the Moto M’s rounded corners and narrower edges speaks for itself. Motorola has also made a change with the fingerprint scanner by moving it to the back just below the rear camera lens. This is the first Motorola smartphone to come with a rear fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is also equipped with support for Dolby ATMOS.
Moto M specifications
The Moto M features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with 2.5D curved glass, and it is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P15 quad-core processor paired with Mali T860MP2 GPU and 4GB of RAM. There is also 32GB storage onboard, which is further expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card.
In the photography department, the Moto M sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The connectivity options available on the Moto M include dual-SIM support, 4G with VoLTE for HD calling, Wi-Fi 802.11, USB Type-C reversible connector and USB OTG.
On the software front, the smartphone surprisingly runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and not Nougat. But an update can soon be expected. For power, the smartphone uses a non-removable 3,050mAh battery contrary to previous rumors about a 5,100mAh battery. Furthermore, it is equipped with quick-charging facility. ould be placed in a segment that includes the likes of Honor 8 Smart, Lenovo Z2 Plus and the Xiaomi Mi 5 to name a few. The Honor 8 Smart, a variant of the Honor 8 is priced at Rs 19,999. It features a 5.2-inch full HD display, with the company’s own Kirin 650 chipset under its hood. The Honor 8 Smart comes with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. For photography, it sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
Lenovo Z2 Plus is priced at Rs 17,999 and features a 5-inch full HD display with 2.5D curved glass protection. Under its hood, runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor paired with 3GB RAM. It comes with 32GB internal storage which is not expandable. The Lenovo Z2 Plus sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, EIS and an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone is powered by a 3,500mAh battery and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with ZUI 2.0. It comes with 4G VoLTE support.
Xiaomi Mi 5 had its price recently slashed from Rs 24,999 to Rs 22,999. The smartphone features a 5.15-inch full HD display with curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Under its hood, runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 1.8GHz paired with 3GB of RAM. Just like the Z2 Plus, the Mi 5 also comes with internal storage of 32GB which cannot be expanded. In the photography department, the Mi 5 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor and a 4-megapixel front camera. It is powered by a 3,000mAh battery and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 7. It has 4G LTE support but not VoLTE.
