Samsung has released the third Android 7.0 Nougat beta for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in the UK in as many weeks.

The latest build brings improvements to the notification shade. You can now choose the grid layout for the toggles and also choose to have the brightness slider at the top of the toggles. The update also gets rid of the Edge feeds feature. Other than that, there are a bunch of minor improvements and bug fixes but the update also has some issues of its own, such as the slow lighting of the screen when you wake up the phone and intermittent Wi-Fi disconnections.
The update can be downloaded as an OTA if you're running the previous builds of the beta build.

OnePlus 3T fixes on December 2 as India launch date

OnePlus is all set to launch it new flagship smartphone OnePlus 3T in India on December 2. Vikas Agarwal, General Manager of OnePlus India had recently hinted about OnePlus 3T on his twitter handle hinting at the Indian launch. Later he put up a 'Truth or Dare' contest on the company's Facebook page and said that he would announce the results for launch date after the contest. Finally, the launch data of Dec 2 has been announced.
The OnePlus official twitter handle also tweeted about the launch date of OnePlus 3T. The tweet reads "The results are in and our fans have spoken. Watch @Vikas_AGL bungee jump to reveal the launch date. #OnePlus3T".
OnePlus had recently launched OnePlus 3T at $439 (Rs 29,800) for 64 GB variant and $479( Rs 32,500) for 128 GB variant. The OnePlus 3T is now available in the US starting November 22 i.e today and will be available in Europe on the 28th of this month. So it would be safe to predict a price between Rs 31-33,000 here in India.

Talking about the specifications and changes in the new OnePlus 3T, not a lot has changed from OnePlus 3 with the same 5.5 inch 1080 x 1920 Optic-AMOLED display, 6GB RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera, Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. What has changed is the new Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.35 GHz coupled with the same Adreno 530 GPU. The front camera has seen a huge upgrade with double the resolution this time of 16 megapixel Samsung sensor. The battery has also seen an improvement with a jump from 3000 mAh in OnePlus 3 to 3400 mAh in OnePlus 3T. Also, the Graphite colour is gone and is replaced by a new Gunmetal variant apart from the Soft Gold variant. Lastly, the camera lens at the back has got sapphire glass protection now.
Coming barely six months after OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T surprised a lot of observers, but by staying true to its premise of affordable flagships, the OnePlus 3T will probably get a solid reception this time too.

OnePlus 3 gets an update for the current OS version

Oneplus has rolled out the OxygenOS 3.2.8 update for the OnePlus 3 smartphone. The update will bring major security improvements and bug fixes to the device. The update is currently being rolled out via OTA(over-the-air) and will reach to all OnePlus 3 users globally soon.

The OxygenOS 3.2.8 update brings support for 1080p video recording at 60fps and emergency call feature for India. This feature will activate SOS calling by rapidly pressing the power button three times after the update.
The update also brings optimisation for Snapchat to fix the video calling and lags in scrolling. Moreover, the update will result in improved system stability and general bug fixes.
The update has been rolled out while remaining on Marshmallow operating system only. OnePlus 3 will also get Android Nougat update next month.
Just to recall, the OnePlus 3 was launched in India for Rs 27,999 in June this year. It has a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that has full HD resolution. Just below the screen lies a home button which also acts as a fingerprint sensor. It has Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system based Oxygen OS. The OnePlus 3 has the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor, Adreno 530 GPU and huge 6 GB RAM.
There is a 3000 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery which has state-of-the-art Dash Charge technology that claims to replenish over 60 per cent of the battery within 30 minutes. OnePlus 3 boasts a16 megapixel rear camera with f2.0 aperture, 1.12 µm Pixels, phase detection autofocus feature and Optical Image Stabilisation. OnePlus 3T review

Inexpensive smartphones have always been about compromise. You may save a few hundred dollars over an iPhone, Galaxy S, or other high-end phones, but you have to give up something, whether that’s performance, build quality, camera quality, display, software experience, or any combination of those. This year, there have been many Android phones that challenge that convention, and none flipped it on its head more than the OnePlus 3, released in June.
The OnePlus 3 retailed for just under $400, significantly less than a high-end $700 Samsung or Apple phone. Despite that price, it had the fastest processor available to Android phones, premium build quality and design, and a cruft-free software experience. Compromises were few and far between and you really had to dig to find them: no support for CDMA networks such as Verizon or Sprint, and no water resistance, which has become a headline feature of high-end smartphones recently. The OnePlus 3 was easily the best value, best-balanced smartphone to arrive this year.
But now you can’t buy the OnePlus 3. Instead, OnePlus has decided to replace it with an even better version: the OnePlus 3T. The 3T shares many of the same qualities as the 3, including the same materials and design; same size and resolution display; same 6GB of RAM; and same rear camera. But it has an even faster processor, a bigger battery, a better front camera, an option for more internal storage, and a new, darker gray color option. It still doesn’t work on Verizon or Sprint and still doesn’t have water resistance, but in other important metrics, it’s a slightly better phone than before. Even at its higher starting price of $439 for a 64GB model ($479 will get you 128GB of storage), the OnePlus 3T is even less of a compromise than its already-excellent predecessor.

4K video recording, though available on the 3 as well, is slightly better thanks to improved electronic image stabilization. It’s not as freakishly steady as the Pixel’s video capture, and the autofocus will hunt back and forth during filming, but it’s an improvement over the 3. Likewise, the new 16-megapixel front camera, which replaces the 8-megapixel unit from the 3, is a little better than before, but not dramatically so.
I’ve been using a OnePlus 3T for nearly two weeks, comparing and contrasting my experience with it to the OnePlus 3 and other similarly specced phones, including Google’s new Pixel. In terms of speed, the 3T is as fast as anything else and might even be faster, but the differences in real-world use are negligible at best. The rear camera, though now covered in a more durable sapphire glass, is the same as the 3’s, which means it’s good, but doesn’t quite keep pace with the Pixel, iPhone 7, or a Samsung Galaxy S7. The differences are largely felt when the 3T’s camera hunts for autofocus more than the others, though the output also isn’t as impressive.

While the processor and camera improvements were hard to see in practice, I certainly noticed the extra stamina afforded by the 3T’s larger battery. It is a 3,400mAh cell compared to the 3,000mAh battery in the 3, yet the thickness and weight of the phone remain unchanged. (OnePlus assures me this will not result in a Note 7-like explosion.) That’s only a 13 percent increase in capacity, but I’ve been able to get extraordinary battery life from the 3T, even when I’ve used it while traveling. Most days I’ve been able to eke out more than five hours of screen time on it before it dies, with location, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE all enabled and the screen brightness set to automatic. Most phones, even the better ones, will struggle to meet 4 hours of screen time with my average use before calling it quits.

I suspect the 3T’s excellent stamina is a combination of its larger battery and new software optimizations implemented by OnePlus. It is running a newer version of Oxygen OS, the company’s lightweight take on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and it likely has improved power management. Though the 3T is disappointingly notlaunching with Android 7 Nougat, OnePlus says that it and the 3 will be updated to the new platform by the end of this year. (Going forward, the company says that the 3 and the 3T will be on the same software update cycle, so owners of the 3 won’t miss out on anything coming to the 3T.)
Like the 3, the 3T uses OnePlus’ proprietary Dash Charging fast charging system, which promises to provide "a day’s power in half an hour" of charging. It lives up to that claim, rapidly charging the 3T’s battery in just a few minutes. But it’s not compatible with Qualcomm’s much more common Quick Charge platform, and it only works with OnePlus’ charging brick and USB cable.

The questions OnePlus 3 owners might be pondering are why did OnePlus release a better phone just months after launching the 3, and is it something they should consider upgrading to? OnePlus says it made the change because it had the opportunity to offer an even better experience and it didn’t want to wait a full model cycle (typically 12 months in the smartphone world) to provide it. That might not appease someone that just recently purchased a OnePlus 3, but I also don’t think the differences between the two are that great to warrant much concern. The most noticeable change is in the battery life, and while it certainly is better, the OnePlus 3’s battery life wasn’t terrible, so it’s a small improvement.
That leads to the question of do the improvements justify the 3T’s higher cost, and I think they do. For $40 more, you get a phone with better battery life; for $80 more, you get that better battery life and twice as much storage. The OnePlus 3T remains the best overall smartphone value you can buy, when balancing performance, features, and experience versus price.

There are certainly reasons to choose a Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S7, or iPhone 7 instead of a OnePlus 3T (and if you use Verizon or Sprint, OnePlus isn’t even an option), but the gap is narrower than ever. If OnePlus is able to keep up this pace of progress, and is able to maintain its excellent value proposition, a year from now, I wonder if there will be any reason to spend $700 or more on a new smartphone.

OnePlus 3T Has Officially Replaced OnePlus 3 in the US and Europe

Since the unveiling of the OnePlus 3T, there have been doubts about the future of its original 2016 flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 3. Some have wondered whether the company will discontinue the OnePlus 3 model now that a new flagship has been unveiled, especially since it was listed as out of stock in many regions, such as US and Europe.
Making the fears of OnePlus 3 fans come true, the company has decided to discontinue the older smartphone in favour of OnePlus 3T in the US as well as Europe now, according to a report by Android Authority. This comes less than a week after OnePlus' support handle reassured users that the smartphone will not be phased out and stock would be replenished.

We reached out to OnePlus to confirm whether this was the case with India as well. The company in an emailed statement said, "We will continue to sell the OnePlus 3 in India." On being asked whether the company intends to launch the upgraded OnePlus 3T in India, the company responded, "About OnePlus 3T, we will keep you posted on its availability."
While the new OnePlus 3T looks identical to the original OnePlus 3 though there are plenty of upgrades under the hood. The new variant packs an all-new Snapdragon processor SoC, a bumped front-facing camera, a new 128GB storage model, and even a new colour variant. The OnePlus 3T smartphone despite featuring upgrades has been given a modest price hike. It will go on sale starting November 22 in the US, November 26 in Europe, and November 28 in the UK.
Coming to pricing, OnePlus 3T 64GB will be available at $439 (roughly Rs. 29,800), while the 128GB model will come at $479 (roughly Rs. 32,500). To recall, the OnePlus 3 was launched at $399 (priced at Rs. 27,999 in India) for the 64GB model.
Considering that the OnePlus 3 is just merely five months old in the market and it has already received an upgrade in the form of OnePlus 3T, it will be interesting to see how the company sells both the phones in various markets.

Android Nougat update now rolling out for Motorola Z and Z Force on Verizon

Although Verizon hasn’t officially announced it yet, many users with Verizon-branded Moto Zand the Moto Z Force have been getting reports of the device receiving and OTA update for Android Nougat 7.0. We can confirm that both the Moto Z and Z Force units we have are now downloading the update once we manually checked for them.

The installation notes mention new Nougat features like split-screen (which is now baked into Android Nougat), App quick-switching (double tap the app switcher to switch between your two most recent apps).

This is the first Nougat update for Moto devices and still among the first Marshmallow devices to be updated to Nougat. But still not as fast as the time Verizon’s Moto X was the first to get KitKat back in 2014, even before Nexus devices that were up for the update. One of the upsides of having minimally modified software is the ability to release them before other OEMs.
The update is rolling out now so if you don’t have the notification yet, head to Settings > System updates > Check for system update. When we did it, it pulled the OTA down right away.

WhatsApp introduced two-step verification for improved security

The new update also brings ability to play audio messages in the background.

Available just on some beta versions, WhatsApp has finally introduced two factor authentication, a feature which was long due now. If you are running WhatsApp beta 2.16.341 or above, you can enable the two step verification for added security.
To enable, head over to Settings > Account > Two-step verification and tap on 'Enable' after which you will be asked to enter a 6 digit pass code which will be asked each time you try to register WhatsApp with your number. Entering the pass-code will lead to the window asking your email for recovering your pass code. Post that, a window displaying 'Two-step verification is enables' will appear after which you will get an option to either disable it, change pass code, change email address.

This two-step verification will now prevent anyone logging into your WhatsApp account even if they have access to your phone number. Every time one registers WhatsApp, he/she would be asked to enter the six-digit pass code associated with that number.
Another addition which should have been there long back was the ability to play audio messages in the background. Playing audio messages on WhatsApp required us to stay on that particular chat window up till now but thankfully now we can scroll through other chat windows or even switch apps while listening to the audio messages. Audio messages on WhatsApp don't only mean voice messages but also audio files sent via WhatsApp. Earlier, in order to listen to it in the background on had to play it via music player.
Note, as mentioned before, these features are only available for WhatsApp beta users. In order to be one, go to this link and enter your email address. Soon you will get an update via PlayStore.
