Sony Announces Xperia SP, L Mid-Range Android Smartphones

Sony has just announced two mid-range Android smartphones to complete it’s lineup of new smartphones for 2013. The company has announced Xperia SP and Xperia L and both the smartphones will be heading to the European and Asian markets. The Sony Xperia SP and Xperia L are expected to go on sale by Q2 2013.

Out of the two smartphones, the Sony Xperia SP is a more feature-rich device and comes with a 4.6-inch HD (720p) display. The Xperia SP is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and gets 8GB of internal storage, which can further be expanded using a micro-SD card.

The Sony Xperia SP runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is a bit disappointing, as one expects Android 4.2 from a device which is scheduled to ship in Q2 and offers such specifications. The smartphone houses an 8 megapixel camera at the back and features a transparent strip which lights up in different colors based on music and notifications just like we’ve seen on previous generation of smartphones from Sony.

The smartphone gets LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for connectivity and comes in three color options- Black, White and Red.

Coming to the Sony Xperia L, which is the more affordable of the two smartphones, the 8 megapixel camera on the device is it’s high point and Sony dubs it as a ”perfect smartphone camera experience”. The camera on the Sony Xperia L comes with HDR support but that’s where all the impressiveness comes to an end.

The Sony Xperia L comes with a 4.3-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixel resolution) display and is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and the smartphones gets 8GB of on-board storage which can be further be expanded using a micro-SD card. Just like the Xperia SP, the Sony Xperia L too, runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but there’s no LTE connectivity on the device.

There are no details as far as pricing of both these devices are concerned but we’ll update you as soon as we have some information on that front.
