Samsung announced the powerful mid-range Android Jelly Bean Running smartphone- the Galaxy Grand in India a couple of weeks back, and the device is expected to go on sale by early next week via all the major online retailers as well as stores across the country.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand comes with a 5-inch WVGA display (800 x 480 pixel resolution) and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 8GB of internal storage which is quite a big advantage as compared to other smartphones in segment, because as far as gaming is concerned, the users aren’t limited by the insufficient internal storage while installing games on the Galaxy Grand.
We never doubted the raw power under the hood of the Galaxy Grand, but we had our share of concern considering the display. A WVGA resolution on a 5-inch screen seemed quite insufficient on-paper, but the time we picked the device up in our hands, we were forced to believe otherwise. As opposed to the numbers that the display packs-in, it is quite good to look at and does a decent job. There are times when the display does feel a bit pixellated, but it isn’t a big cause of concern and the Galaxy grand more than makes-up for it with the kind of gaming performance it offers.
We started off with Temple Run 2 and experienced a smooth overall gameplay without any jerks, and the same was the case while playing Dead trigger on the device. The large screen comes advantageous while accessing the controls during the gameplay, which don’t feel cramped at any time. Also, we were impressed with the sound quality on the Galaxy Grand as it didn’t turn noisy even at higher levels.
Everything was going good, till we decided to take a shot at NOVA 3 on the Galaxy Grand, because as soon as we installed the game, we fell in love with the device. The game not only ran, but ran quite smoothly as well which was quite a big surprise as we had quite a few problems while playing NOVA 3 on some of the higher-priced smartphones.
However, one glitch we did face on the Galaxy Grand was that weren’t able to play Asphalt 7 on the smartphone and were always stuck at the “checking license” screen. Barring that, the Galaxy Grand did a brilliant job in our gaming test and is probably one of the best smartphones at this price point as far as Gaming is concerned.
