The Chromebook Pixel from Google features a 12.85-inch touchscreen display that has a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels, amounting to a pixel density of 239 pixels per inch (ppi). Google says that the display on the Chromebook pixel is the best screen that has ever been put on a laptop. The display is a step ahead than Apple’s 13.1-inchMacbook Pro with Retina display that has pixel density of 227 pixels per inch.
Under the hood, the Chromebook Pixel is powered by a 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and Intel HD 4000 graphics. The premium Chrmebook Pixel gets 32GB of SSD storage and weighs-in at just 1.52kg and with a thickness of just 16.2mm, is quite thin as well.
Other specifications of the device include a 720p webcam, Backlit Chrome keyboard, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, mini Display port, SD/MMC card reader and Google also offers 1TB of Google Drive cloud storage for three years along with the Chromebook pixel.
Google is also offering a 4G LTE variant of the Chromebook Pixel, which comes with 64GB of SSD storage and costs $1,499.
Even after all the goodness that Google claims to have put inside the Chromebook Pixel, why would anyone spend $1,299 on a laptop that can only connect to the internet and do nothing else? Also, at just $200 more, you can get the 13-inch Macbook Pro with a Retina display, which offers a lot more than just run the web and web applications.
