Tecknova: Nokia launches the Lumia 920 and 820 in India, Lumia 620 coming early next month

Nokia has officially launched it’s flagship Windows Phone 8 handset, the Lumia 920 in India along with it’s younger sibling, the Lumia 820 and both the handsets would go sale starting tomorrow morning in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai while the other cities would follow soon. Nokia also announced the Lumia 620 for the Indian market but it would go on sale only by early next month.

Now, the most important thing you’d want to know- the pricing. Well, Nokia has kind of disappointed us with the pricing of the new Lumia handsets. The Nokia Lumia 920 costs Rs.38,199 while the Lumia 820 comes at an MRP of Rs.27,599. The price in our opinion is a bit steep and Nokia could’ve done much better considering that it doesn’t enjoy the premium positioning in the market anymore and it’s Android rivals like the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X+ come for a lesser amount of money and are immensely popular amongst the masses.

Nokia Lumia 920

If you don’t quite remember the specifications of the devices, here they are again- The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display and believe us, Nokia brags a lot about this new technology! It is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and such power under the hood is more than capable of giving you a lag free experience on the Windows Phone 8 OS. The phone comes with 32GB of internal storage but there’s no micro-SD card slot for storage expansion.

The highlight of the Lumia 920 though, is it’s 8.7 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and it’s probably one of the best cameras we’ve seen on a smartphone. Nokia demoed the imaging capabilities of the Lumia 920 at the launch event and all we could do, was just applaud the good work. The camera also offers optical image stabilization and it brings quite some improvements in the image quality. The front of the Lumia 920 gets a 1.9 megapixel camera and the phone houses a 2,000mAh battery.

Nokia Lumia 820

Younger brother to the Lumia 920, the Nokia Lumia 820 comes with a 4.3-inch AMOLED display that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels which nearly amounts to 217 pixels per inch (ppi) and is one of the most disappointing factors of the smartphone. Though, as opposed to what we assumed earlier, the Lumia 820 isn’t targeted to rival the HTC 8S, but sits a segment higher. The Lumia 920 is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno 225 GPU paired with 1GB of RAM and ensure quite-smooth operation on the device.

The Nokia Lumia 820 comes with 8GB of internal storage along with a micro-SD card slot for storage expansion and houses an 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics but misses out on the optical image stabilization. The front of the device has a video camera which can be used for calling and to keep the phone up and running for long, it gets a 1,650 mAh battery.

Unlike the Lumia 920, the back cover on the Nokia Lumia 820 is removable and you can this, change the color your device as per your need with many color options like black, red, blue, magenta,white, grey and yellow being available. BUT! be very careful while removing the back cover as it is near to impossible to remove it and if you apply much force, you might end up breaking it.

Nokia Lumia 620

Unlike the Lumia 920 and 820, the Lumia 620 won’t go on sale tomorrow but would make it’s way to stores in India by early next month and Nokia hasn’t revealed the price of this device yet. But considering how it’s older siblings are priced, we expect the Nokia Lumia 620 be be priced in the Rs.18,000-20,000 segment. Thus, expect the Lumia 620 to take on the HTC 8S.

The Nokia Lumia 620 sports a 3.8-inch TFT WVGA ClearBlack display and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. The device comes with 8GB of internal storage along with a micro-SD card slot for storage expansion by up to 64GB.

The Lumia 620 houses a 5 megapixel snapper at the back along with LED flash and also, a front-facing VGA camera to fulfill you video-calling needs. One major concern with the device though, could be it’s 1,300 mAh battery which in our opinion might not be enough to keep the phone running throughout the day.
