LG has set its sales target at 75 million phones in 2013, an increase of about 25% from the 55 million they sold in 2012. Out of the total sales, LG expects smartphones to make up 45 million, while the remaining 30 million will be comprised of feature phones and budget handsets.
The Korea Times reports that the new sales figures were revealed by one of LG's Korean partners. A senior official from LG also spoke to The Korea Times and stated that they were planning to launch a number of Optimus handsets in the new year, along with smartphones running Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 mobile OS.
A new high-end LG smartphone is already rumoured to exist and expected to wield the 5.5-in HD display that LG showed off at CES 2013and a quad-core processor, although whether it will run Windows Phone or Android is unknown. This device, codenamed “GK” joins the oft-rumoured Optimus G2, LG's upcoming Android-powered flagship smartphone, in the Korean phone maker's launch schedule.
While the “GK” is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February, there is no word yet on when the Optimus G2 will make its debut in the public eye.
