Karbonn announces S1 Titanium smartphone: 1.2GHz Quad-Core CPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Remember our report about the quad-core smartphones becoming pocket-friendly in 2013, all thanks to our Indian manufacturers? Well, it seems that smartphones manufacturers in India were just waiting for 2013 to arrive, to start the quad-core war in India.
After Micromax launched the Canvas HD quad-core smartphone last week, it was just a matter of time before other manufacturers started to follow suit and now, even before the Canvas HD made it’s way to retail stores, it already has a competitor in the form of Karbonn S1 Titanium.

Quick Specifications of Karbonn S1 Titanium

  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • 4.5-inch qHD display
  • dual-SIM
  • 4GB internal storage, micro-SD card slot
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
  • 5MP rear camera with LED flash, Front-facing VGA camera
Karbonn has listed the S1 Titanium smartphone up for pre-order on it’s website at a price of Rs.10,990, which is quite cheaper as compared to the Micromax Canvas HD but the difference in price is clearly seen on the specs sheet.
The Karbonn S1 titanium is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The RAM on the device is still unknown but we believe anything below 1GB would be a big disappointment. The smartphone sports a 4.5-inch qHD display (960 x 540 pixel resolution) which again, is inferior to the Canvas HD’s 5-inch 720p IPS display.
The S1 Titanium is a dual-SIM smartphone and comes with 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded by up to 32GB using a micro-SD card. The device loses to Canvas HD in terms of camera as well, as it comes with a 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash as opposed to the 8 megapixel camera which the canvas HD offers. The S1 Titanium also gets a front facing VGA camera which can be used for video calling.
On connectivity front, the Karbonn S1 Titanium boasts of 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth with A2DP and GPS. The device houses a 1,600mAh battery which according to the company, can give a talk time of up to 4 hours.
Though the specifications of the S1 Titanium aren’t as impressive as the Canvas HD, but considering that it’s priced Rs.4,000 lesser than the Canvas HD might attract a lot of  buyers. To know which one of these devices offers a better bang for the buck, we guess we’ll just have to wait till both these devices actually hit the market!
