HTC J Butterfly unveiled with 5-inch 1080p display, Jelly Bean and quad-core CPU

Rumours that HTC is working on a 5-inch smartphone that features a 1080p display have been circulating for some time. It was earlier speculated that the device would be launched in September or October. Well, HTC has officially unveiled its 5-inch 1080p smartphone in Japan, called the J Butterfly.

Taking on the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note II, the HTC J Butterfly features a 5-inch 440ppi high resolution full HD 1920 X 1080 touchscreen display. The device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS with Sense 4 on top, and is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor. It has 2GB of RAM. The device comes with built in 16GB of storage along with microSD card slot that supports storage up to 32GB.
There's also an 8MP camera, which can take still images up to 3280×2464, and record videos in 1080p. The battery has a 2,020mAh capacity. For connectivity, the HTC J Butterfly supports LTE connectivity, NFC, HDMI and Bluetooth 4.0.
HTC's J Butterfly specs look quite impressive and considering the product shots, it's got an attractive design. Facing a stiff competition from Samsung and Apple, HTC will be looking to increase its market share with the new J Butterfly and the 8X and 8S Windows Phones.
The HTC J Butterfly will go on sale in Japan in early December with red, white and black colour options. The company hasn't announced details on the international launch right now, but it is expected to take place before end of this year.
