Qualcomm challenges YOU to try and break the world record for the "Longest Video Games Marathon Playing on a Tablet" challenge.
In lieu of E3 2012, which is to be held once again at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Qualcomm has set up a contest to set the Guinness World Record for "Longest Video Games Marathon Playing on a Tablet" on its website. Those who sign up will be put into a random drawing for the 120 participants that will be invited to the contest qualification party which is taking place on May 22 in Los Angeles. Details on what will take place at the qualification party were not specified beyond that the 120 gamers will compete in an unnamed driving game.
The 50 with the best times from the qualification party will then go on to compete at the actual event at E3, which will take place from 12:30 p.m. May 5 to 7:00 p.m. May 6. The winner of the competition will receive $20,000 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. Monetary awards will trickle down to the fifth place winner. However, Qualcomm apparently didn't want anyone to go home empty as the 120 Semi-Finalists will be awarded with t-shirts and other promotional materials. The 50 Finalists who go to the actual competition will receive a gift bag with the equivalent of $250 in goodies. At the contest, finalists will be broken up into gaming groups. Each gaming group can compete against each other in four additional "Spot Gamer Challenges", where the Finalists from each group will receive a $100 gift card bonus prize, although the type of gift card is at Qualcomm's discretion.
If you think you have what it takes to last through 26 hours of competitive tablet gaming, sign up atQualcomm's website. Unfortunately, the contest is closed to permanent California residents over the age 18. However, if you are chosen, you're at least good for $25 worth of Qualcomm goodies. And who can say no to a free shirt?
