Sony starts Android 4.0 ICS rollout


The rollout of Android 4.0 ICS update for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray has been announced for four countries. Updates for other 2011 Xperia devices can be expected in May.

Sony Mobile has announced the commencement of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for 2011 Xperia smartphones. The new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will initially be made available to the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray.
Since the rollout will take place phase-wise, Sony Mobile 2011 Xperia smartphone owners in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway will get the update first. The roll out will continue over the next 4-6 weeks.
Sony Mobile had promised to release the Android 4.0 ICS update by the second quarter of this year. Keeping its promise, the company has now started the rollout for the 2011 Xperia family of devices - Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, and Xperia Ray. Other 2011 Xperia smartphone owners will have to wait till the end of May or early June for the Android 4.0 ICS update.
Sony takes its own time because the devices are offered with different software and mobile operator configurations in different regions across the globe.
Following this update, Sony Mobile will roll out the Android 4.0 ICS update for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman in May or early June.
