While big players await the launch of their devices, smaller players announce the launch of low cost Android tablets, with Android Ice Cream Sandwich as well.
Three low cost tablets from different vendors were released on a single day in India. All cost less than Rs 12,000 and offer almost the same hardware specifications as bigger players like Samsung are offering. The devices include sub Rs 10,000 Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablets coming from brands like iBerry and Zync; while Intex announced its entry in the Android Market with its Gingerbread tablet as well. Although these devices are low in cost they are certainly not low in terms of hardware specifications and the manufacturers are all offering a 1 year warranty.
The iBerry Auxus AX02 tablet, which is priced at Rs 9,990 features a 1 GHz Arm Cortex A8 processor with a dedicated graphics engine for speed and better graphic capabilities. Along with that the Auxus features 1 GB of RAM, front and rear cameras and WiFi connectivity with b,g and n standards.
The 7 inch display features 800 x 400 pixel resolution and a five point capacitive touch based input system with pinch to zoom functionality. For better gaming support it will have a Gyro based motion sensor which records accurate motion information. Also, the tablet offers 2D to 3D video conversion allowing users to watch visuals in 3D while wearing glasses sold separately.
The Intex i-Tab is another low cost tablet priced at Rs 11,900 that features Android Gingerbread 2.3 operating system, and is powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A8 core processor supported by a 512 MB DDR3 RAM.
It has an 8 inch; two point capacitive touchscreen display. It also has an inbuilt memory of 8 GB, expandable up to 32 GB, and comes with connectivity options including WiFi, 3G (through dongle), and USB.
The tablet is powered by a 5000 mAh battery, which the company claims gives a backup of 5 to 6 hours. To facilitate office work it comes with Word, Excel and Power Point viewer. Pre-loaded applications such as the Adobe Reader, Android Market and popular games like Angry Birds, Solitaire, Talking Tom etc. are also present in the tablet.
Last but not least is Zync Tab. The Zync tablet is priced at Rs 8,990 and is powered with a 1.2 GHz processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM for smooth performance.
The tablet has 4 GB of inbuilt memory, which can be expanded up to 32 GB. The device comes with a 7 inch capacitive screen that responds to up to five touch points.
The tablet has WiFi, a 0.3 megapixel camera, a full sized USB port that supports pen drives, external keyboards, and 3G USB dongles, an HDMI port, and a micro USB port.
The company iBerry has made this device available countrywide. The devices will be available through the online retail network and through retail sales partners available at various cities across India. The company is offering a one year comprehensive warranty for the devices, which will be handled by the company’s service network throughout India. iBerry has also set up a toll free number for service. Along with that the tablet will come with an on-site warranty, which means if it is not working then the company will get it picked up from your home for repairs, and you will not have to worry about searching for service centers.
