Samsung may postpone Galaxy S III announcement to after MWC

The Mobile World Conference, or the MWC is an annual event during which brands show off their flagship handsets. This year's event, reportedly will focus on quad-core handsets making their entry in the smartphone sphere. Brands such as HTC, LG and Samsung are all expected to unveil their quad-core smartphones at the event. The much anticipated and awaited Samsung Galaxy S III was also expected to make its first appearance at this event, but as per a report by The Verge, it seems that Samsung may hold back the announcement of their upcoming flagship handset, till after the event.

Samsung may delay the announcement date of the S III

The report states that Samsung decided to delay the announcement as they do not want to keep a long gap between the global launch date and the availability of the handset in the U.S, a key market for the South Korean brand's business. Samsung views the U.S as a major market, as they get most carriers to pick up their mobile devices. The report goes on to state that though the brand may push back the announcement date for the Galaxy S III, sources have informed them that it will still be announced "before summer."

If Samsung does intend to unveil the Galaxy S III after the Mobile World Conference event in Barcelona, it would still fall in the April launch period, which was predicted by tech blogger, Eldar Murtizin, a few days ago. Though not many specifications are available about the smartphone, the Galaxy S III is expected to feature a 1.5-1.6GHz quad-core processor, an HD resolution display, a 12MP camera along with Google’s latest operating software, Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Eldar Murtazin, through a Twitter post indicated that he had a first hand experience with the handset and claims that it is definitely fast.

As of now, the website claims that these are rumours and there is a possibility, although minute, the Galaxy S III may launch during MWC. Samsung, at the event last year did unveil the S II, so hopefully the brand will unveil the follow up handset at this year’s event.
