Let's hope this isn't a flexible deadline.
Last week, Nokia impressed us with a demonstration of a device with a flexible display that's controlled by the bending and twisting of said display. However, though impressive, this is just a prototype device, and there's no telling when (or if), we'll ever see anything like it in the future. Samsung, on the other hand, is eager to impress with its own flexible display prowess. We've already seen flexible display efforts from the company in the past, but this week, Samsung is giving us more information on when we can expect to see devices using this technology on the market.
According to PCWorld, Samsung is hoping to launch cell phones with flexible displays early in 2012, with tablets and additional devices to follow soon after.
"The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part," said Robert Yi is quoted as saying during an earnings call. "The application probably will start from the handset side."
The company showed off flexible OLEDs at CES back in January of this year. In June, reports surfaced that said Samsung was aiming to mass produce the displays in Q2 2012. Sounds like things are still on track. Check out the videos below to see Sammy's bendy screens in action:
