Over the last couple of weeks, we've seen a big increase in talk of quad-core smartphones. Marching on with this trend is the Samsung Galaxy S III, which will apparently have a quad-core processor under the hood.
According to the Samsung-focused Sammy Hub, the first traces of Samsung’s Exynos Quad-core System-on-Chip (SoC), the 4412, have turned up on the Kernal Git page. Sammy Hub reports that the chip, which has apparently entered the testing phase, is similar to the Exynos 4212 and is based on ARM Cortex A9 with four CPU cores. The clock speed is said to match that of the Exynos 4212 at 1.5GHz.
Last week we heard about the HTC Edge, which will purportedly pack Nvidia's quad-core Kal-El processor. The device is said to be just over ten millimeters thick and boasts a 4.7-inch 720p display; 1GB of RAM; an 8-megapixel camera with 28-millimeter and f/2.2 lens; no physical buttons (thanks to Ice Cream Sandwich); 32GB of storage; and the all important Nvidia AP30 Tegra 3 processor. Though HTC has not yet confirmed the Edge's existence, word on the street is that we can expect it to launch late in Q1 or early in Q2 of next year.
