Motorola Confirms Two New Xoom Tablets

Motorola has finally confirmed the much talked about Xoom 2. In fact, the company has announced not one but two versions of the tablet.
We've been hearing bits and pieces about Motorola's Xoom 2 for a couple of months now. Yesterday, the device was confirmed for European availability before the holiday shopping season thanks to a flyer from electronics retailer Carphone Warehouse. However, despite all these leaked specs, release dates and prices, we had yet to hear an official announcement from Motorola.
Today, Moto stepped up to the plate, announcing two different models of Xoom 2 early this morning. The company launched the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition in Europe this morning, detailing specs for both devices. The first, the regular Xoom 2, will boast a 10.1-inch HD Gorilla Glass display, along with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 1.3-megapixel camera in front for video-calling and a 5-megapixel camera in the back. Customers interested in the Xoom 2 Media Edition will get the same dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 1.3-megapixel camera in front for video-calling and 5-megapixel camera in the back, but with a different screen size. While the Xoom 2's display measures in at 10.1 inches, the Xoom 2 Media Edition packs a smaller 8.2-inch HD Gorilla Glass display. Both variants run Android 3.2, also known as Honeycomb, but will get the update to Ice Cream Sandwich once it is available.
Unfortunately, this announcement is coming out of Motorola Europe, so no pricing or availability was announced for the rest of the world. With the tablets due out before Christmas in the UK and Ireland, it's likely North America will also get them before the year is out. We'll keep you posted.
