LG Optimus 3D gets much-needed Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade

LG has said it will start rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to its Optimus 3D devices from November 21. The update will be initially available in Europe and other markets will follow by the end of this year. LG had recently announced Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for its Optimus line-up.
With the Gingerbread update, the Optimus 3D users are supposed to get Enhanced HSPA+ Speed via faster packet data service, 3D video editor and full-screen UI preview. LG says the preview screen has become wider with a transparent UI, allowing users to capture improved quality 3D content. Moreover, now the Optimus 3D users will be able to record high quality video in 2D mode as well. The updated LG Optimus 3D is likely to feel faster as gallery loading time has also been reduced. The Gingerbread upgrade also includes additional features such as longer MP3 playback time.
“These enhanced features included in our customized Android 2.3 upgrade will allow users to further integrate 3D into their everyday lives, as we make the technology more accessible and enjoyable on smartphones,” says Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We believe that 3D is here to stay and glasses-free 3D on portable devices is to experience the future.”
LG's Gingerbread update comes at a time when Samsung and Sony Ericsson have announced updating their devices to the Ice Cream Sandwich. We may see LG rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich in its rumoured second version of the LG Optimus 3D. The new version of the LG Optimus 3D is said to be slimmer and is likely to be launched next year.
