Understanding their own shortcomings Google has updated their Google TV and this time around it seems a lot better than the last. In a blog post, Google has claimed that the Google TV platform contributes to this evolution of the way one watches TV by enabling new content creators to add to the programming you already enjoy on your TV. With the update the tech giant focuses on four areas of improvements which are keeping it simple, making it easy to find something worth watching, making YouTube better on TV and lastly, bringing more apps to TV.
A really smart TV!
Google goes on to elaborate a bit on the aforementioned updates found on the Google TV. About keeping it simple, the company says, “The interface is now much simpler. The new customizable home screen gets you to your favorite content quickly. And within “all apps” you can see all of your shortcuts, similar to your Android phone or tablet.“ Regarding easily searching for content, they claim that they have improved search across the board for content from Live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, and more. Besides this, there is also an app called TV and Movies, which allows one to browse through 80,000 movies and TV episodes across YouTube, Amazon, etc.
They have also made YouTube better to watch on TV and by doing so the company claims that it is now fast and easy to get to one’s favorite HD-quality YouTube entertainment. And they have integrated YouTube more closely with Google TV search, so that one can turn virtually any topic into a channel. Lastly, they are opening up the TV to the creativity of content creators large and small through Android Market. Android developers can now bring existing mobile apps or entirely new ones to TV. Initially, the number of apps won’t be large – apps requiring a touch screen, GPS, or telephony won’t show up – but 50 developers have seeded the Market with useful apps for the TV.
The blog post ends by saying that this software update will be coming to Sony devices starting early next week and Logitech devices soon thereafter. Let us know your thoughts on the latest update of Google TV in the comments below.
