Reliance Jio may extend the Welcome Offer till March 2017

Earlier last month, Mukesh Ambani officially launched Reliance Jio after gradually expanding it to most of the available 4G VoLTE smartphones. At that time, Reliance Jio introduced the new Welcome Offer in which all the Jio Users get free 4G data (Speed limit up to 4GB per day), Free calls and SMS up to 31st December, 2016.
Further, last week reports suggested that if you are planning to enroll to this Welcome Offer then you need to do it before December 3rd, 2016.
Now, reports from Mint have suggested that Reliance Jio might expand the Welcome offer beyond the December 31 deadline. According to Mind, a spokesperson from Reliance Jio was spotted saying that it would be unfair to charge customers until Jio management is fully satisfied with the quality of service which is why reports now suggests that the offer might be extended to March 2017.
Recently, a lot has been going on between Reliance Jio and other telecom operators such as Airtel, Vodafone etc. Blaming other operators, Reliance Jio has pointed out lack of interconnect points which is eventually causing call drops on a humongous scale. However, Jio finally managed to get support fromTRAI which appealed fellow telecom operators to cooperate with the new entrant.
Lately, Reliance Jio has witnessed a lot of criticism from its users for not providing the promised speed which the company justified by pointing out to the Fair Usage Policy referring to which one is only eligible to use 4GB 4G data per day.

Whatsapp receives the much-awaited video calling feature

Highly anticipated video calling feature has finally made its way to Whatsapp Messenger. Though, as of now the update is only available in a beta version (v2.16.316 onwards) of the messenger. So if you are registered with Whatsapp's Beta Programme you will soon be notified of a new update.

Using this feature is pretty simple. Go to or search a contact and tap the call button and choose 'Video Call'. However, in order to successfully video chat both the Caller and Recipient should be running the latest beta version of Whatsapp. Once in, you will be welcomed with a Face-Time like the interface or else you will get a message saying that your contact needs to update the app.
At the time of writing this story, we didn't receive any update so we are yet to test the new video calling feature. However, critiques across the globe have somewhat mixed reviews.
Whatsapp has had the voice call feature for quite some time now and to be honest it works pretty well even on 2G networks. As far as video calling is concerned, you will definitely need to have a better internet connection.
Nevertheless, Google recently released Google Duo as its go to video calling app and based on our testing, the app showed quite incredible results. We liked how Google managed to shrink down the entire size of the app and still offer all the functionality a video calling app has to offer. Thanks to the simple and no-nonsense user interface.
However, while Google Duo is just a video calling app and Whatsapp Messenger is essentially a messenger with features like voice and video calling feature. And based on facts, though erstwhile, you may get better functionality but having one app for chat, voice and video calls is much more convenient. Stay Tuned for our detailed hands-on review of this new feature.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL goes on sale in India: Here’s all you need to know

The Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones from Google are the first, true flagship devices from the company and considered by many, including us, to be worthy rivals to the iPhone.
If you’re in the market for one, be prepared to shell out a hefty sum for these devices don’t come cheap. The 5-inch Pixel phone goes on sale for Rs 57,000 and the 5.5-inch Pixel XL goes on sale for Rs 67,000. These prices are for the 32GB models of these phones.
The 128GB variants of these phones will be available for Rs 66,000 and Rs 76,000 for the Pixel and Pixel XL respectively. The phones will be available for sale on Flipkart, Reliance Digital, Croma and over a 1000 other stores across the country.

Both phones feature AMOLED screens, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC clocked at 2.15 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB and 128 GB storage options, a 12.3 MP f/2.0 rear camera and an 8 MP f/2.4 front camera. Both rear camera units use sensors with 1.55µm pixel sensors and support up to 2160p video at 30fps. Both cameras can also offer up to 240 fps at 720p.
Google claims that the phones are splash and dust resistant, but that doesn’t mean these are waterproof.
In terms of hardware, the only difference between these phones is that the Pixel offers a 5-inch Full HD display while the Pixel XL offers a 5.5-inch 2K display.
The Pixel phones aren’t just about the hardware, however.
Google has tightly integrated Google Assistant into Android 7.1 and the Pixel phones take full advantage of its features. If that wasn’t enough, Google also offers unlimited, full-resolution photo storage on Google Drive with the purchase of every Pixel smartphone. Oh, and there’s Daydream support as well.
Now is that a steal or what?

Samsung announces upgrade program for Galaxy Note7 users

Samsung has announced a new upgrade program for users of its ill-fated Galaxy Note7smartphone. Under the program, dubbed Galaxy Upgrade, those trading in their Note7 unit for either a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge will be able to upgrade to a Galaxy S8 or Note 8 next year.
During the upgrade, customers will only have to shell out 50% of the cost of their Galaxy S7 device. Also included in the upgrade program is a 50% discount on LCD repair costs, that users would be able to avail twice.
Open until November 30 this year, the upgrade program has currently only been announced for South Korea, and those who've already exchanged their Note7 unit for a Galaxy S7/S7 edge will also be eligible for it. Details on how interested users can join the program will be made available soon.
Sadly, there's currently no word on if and when the newly announced Galaxy Upgrade program - or a similar program - will be made available in other markets worldwide.

Huawei releases Huawei Mate 9 teaser for November 3 event

Huawei is preparing to announce its latest Mate lineup, complete with a Pro model that features a curved dual-edge display. Huawei is going to hold its launch even on November 3 in China and it has released a teaser poster on its official Weibo page.
The poster reads “ A step ahead” but that doesn’t really explain anything. Also, Huawei throws us in for a loop with that car-silhouette taking up the center of the poster. We would hope that it is some indication of CPU speed (the Mate 9 is said to feature the company’s newest Kirin 960 CPU) or, perhaps, some new kind of integration with cars.

In any case, the Huawei Mate 9 will feature a 5.9-inch 1080p screen, USB-C port interface, and said to come in two memory configurations with the higher one up to 6GB of RAM with up to 256GB of internal storage. There’s also a dual camera setup with 4X optical zoom.
There’s also word of a Pro model, which is said to feature a dual-edged curved display, as well as an upgraded QHD screen. @evleaks also reports the tricked out Pro model could carry a retail price tag of about $1,300!

Apple may launch new MacBook Pro later this month

Its been more than a month since Apple launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and strangely there hasn't been much rumours about the new Macbook Pro which was rumoured a lot before the iPhone event. However, as per a latest report of Macotakara, Apple might launch the new MacBook Pro later this month, October 27th to be precise. Moreover, it may also launch a new refreshed variant of MacBook Air which will come with 13 inch display. Sadly, the 11-inch variant of MacBook Air will probably be discontinued.
The latest reports have also suggested that Apple is likely to include USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports instead of MagSafe connectors and traditional USB and Thunderbolt 2 ports. Apple implemented something similar in last year's 12-inch MacBook but hopefully it includes more than one USB Type-C portthis time and also we would love if Apple don't ditch the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Though we don't expect Apple to include a micro SD slot or HDMI port.
Earlier, reports from Bloomberg also claimed that the new MacBook pro will boast better graphics and Apple will finally introduce Intel's Skylake processors which will provide better performance and power efficiency.
Still, the most anticipated feature in the new MacBook is said to be the OLED panel located just above the keyboard. This OLED panel will be called 'Dynamic Function Row' and users will be able to control a bunch of controls through this OLED screen. Apple is also expected to slim down the new MacBook Pro. Further, there have been rumours before about Apple integrating the famous Touch ID into the new MacBook Prowhich in our opinion is long due.
Apple is also rumoured to launch a 5K standalone monitor with integrated GPUs. For this the company is said to be working with LG though there haven't been information and leaks about the same.

Google’s stock price soars to highest price ever, soon after first wave of Pixel reviews

Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL have not quite yet been released. However, the initial wave of reception from other blogs is quite optimistic. Not soon after this first wave of Pixel and Pixel XL reviews was released on the internet.

Today, Alphabet Inc’s stock opened at $814.21. Throughout the course of the day, stock began rising and reached a level that has not yet been reached by the company. Google’s stock reached $828.81 at around 02:20 PM this afternoon. The highest the stock has even been in its history. The stock value closed at the end of the day (4PM) at $821.49

Bloomberg attributes the soaring stock price to the first wave of reviews for the Pixel devices, which are generally positive. It appears that Google’s software and hardware efforts for the Pixel phones are already paying off, even though the phone isn’t fully released yet.
Customers should begin getting their devices starting around October 20. For those who pre-ordered the phone from the Google Store and opted for ground shipping, you won’t get your device until the estimated October 26-28. If you opted for next-day shipping, you can expect to have your device before the weekend or first thing on Monday morning.

Mysterious Motorola smartphone spotted, could be new Moto X

Famous tipster Evan Blass posted an image on Twitter today which resembled a lot to Moto X Style. Its been a while since Motorola released a phone in its X series and this might be the right time for it as well and this might be the next gen Moto X handset.

Recently, Moto X (2016) was even spotted on CCC certification website and some of the benchmarks revealed Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB RAM. The display is touted to be a 5.5 inch AMOLED display which, according to reports, could be Shatterproof. Further, Motorola may include the modular functionality which it recently introduced in Moto Z series.
Apparently, this is not Moto M which has been in the rumours recently. Regarding the specifications, Moto M is expected to feature a 4.6-inch full-HD display, 1.9 GHz Mediatek MT6750 octa-core SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel selfie camera and Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. A 3000 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner is also expected.
Coming back to the Moto X (2016), not much has been revealed about the design so we are not much sure if this is the new Moto X or if company will ever release a new Moto X. Nevertheless, Moto X series has been one of the most successful lineup for Motorola.
The original Moto X Style though came with decent specifications didn't do well. Whereas, Moto X Play was extremely successful with its high performance battery. Lets wait and see if Motorola is planning to release yet another successful Moto X device.

Here's how to get Jio SIM online

Fed up waiting in the line to get a Jio SIM? If yes, then here is a good news for you. Now you can get a Jio SIM from the comfort of your home.
A website called 'aonebiz.in' is now offering Jio SIM online. All you have to fill up a form online and provide necessary details and they will deliver the SIM to the mentioned address.
The website says that it is totally free but is asking Rs 199 as delivery charges which make sense. Your SIM will be delivered to you in 7-10 business days which though seem a bit too much time to wait. At the time of delivery, some documents as address proof and identity proof and a passport size photograph has to be submitted.
Jio SIMs are in high demand these days as the operator is offering free voice, SMS and data services till December 31. Though Jio is offering free SIMs, vendors are charging as much as Rs 500 in the name of services, codes etc.
However, The Mobile Indian takes no responsibility for the website and you are advised to proceed at your own risk.

How to return a Galaxy Note 7 bought second-hand

Samsung and several carriers and retailers in the US started exchanging potentially dangerous Galaxy Note 7 units earlier this week. The move followed the Korean phone maker’s decision to halt the Note 7 production after its battery fiasco went beyond Samsung’s control. But what about those who’ve purchased a second-hand or used Note 7? Well, worry no more, Samsung isn’t leaving you out in the cold.

Even though it was only released last month, the flagship has been out long enough that it’s hard to rule out the possibility of second-hand Galaxy Note 7s floating around. So if you’ve bought a used Note 7, chances are that you can’t go back to the original owner and have your phone swapped for a replacement handset. Fortunately, there’s a straightforward way for you to return your device direct to Samsung.
In a press statement, Samsung advises customers to contact the company directly:
Any customer who bought a Note 7 [used] should contact us directly at 1-844-365-6197 to exchange their device. We are working as quickly as possible to make the service experience for our customers as quick and smooth as possible and we are grateful to our Note 7 customers for their patience during this time.
The same policy that Samsung implemented during the recall process in September applies here. Also, you can swap out your second-hand Galaxy Note 7 for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge even without an official receipt of sale or warranty. However, be sure to power down the handset before returning it to Samsung.

Reports claim most Note7 customers are opting for an S7 edge replacement

If you didn’t get the memo, the Galaxy Note7 saga finally came to and end a couple of days ago. It was definitely not the resolution the Korean giant had hoped for, but the flagship phablet is officially canceled and no longer in production. However, there is still the matter of pulling all the units that are already out there.

Samsung is being extra accommodating about that process as well. Yesterday it announced that it will even be exchanging second-hand units, regardless of origin. By all accounts the Korean giant just wants the saga to end and move on, which despite all the criticism seems to be playing well with fans.
According to a Taiwanese supplier chain, around 90% or customers, coming in to return their Note7 units, as per the recall are opting to walk out with a Galaxy S7 edge instead. That is definitely a good sign of the unwavering fan love. And just to keep everybody's minds at ease, Samsung has also been pushing messages to Galaxy S7 units, to reaffirm they are not affected by the battery crisis.
The model-wide recall is being conducted in slightly different ways on various markets, but the aforementioned free replacement option is typically available and apparently quite popular, since major carriers have already reported that their Galaxy S7 edge stock is depleted and Samsung has been ramping-up production to cope.In Taiwan in particular, affected users have a pretty sweet deal. Not only can they take their Note7 into any local retailer or carrier and get a free replacement phone, but there is also a $95 gift certificate if they opt for an S7 edge or Note5. Better yet, since the Note7 was more expensive than than the aforementioned siblings, users will also get a refund for any price gap - usually between $125-$155 for the S7 edge and $125-$220 for the Note5.

Earlier, the company tied up with Idea Cellular for opening its first experience store in India where people would be able to come and use OnePlus products. Further, OnePlus have buried recent rumours about it discontinuing the One Plus 3 for a new refreshed variant. The company might sell the OnePlus 3 with LCD panel rather than AMOLED panel due to shortage of AMOLED panels.

RIP Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Reportedly, Samsung has now decided to offer Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge to the existing owners of Note 7.

On October 7, The Mobile Indian was the first tech website to suggest Samsung to stop making the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 and the Korean company seems to have listened to suggestion. On Tuesday, it announced its decision to discontinue the Galaxy Note 7 which has been marred in controversies ever since its launch in August this year.
The decision came after the replaced model of Note 7 too caught fire.
"Taking our customer's safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7," the company said.
Samsung even advised Galaxy Note 7 users world-wide to immediately switch off their original or replacement Note 7s. Earlier the company had asked telecom carriers and retailers to stop selling the Note 7.
Samsung shares had tumbled after the Tuesday announcement and as per estimates Note 7 would cost Samsung up to $2.8 billion.
Reportedly, Samsung has now decided to offer Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge to the existing owners of Note 7.
Samsung's loss though would bring cheers to its rivals, especially Apple and Google whose iPhone 7 and Pixel phones stand to gain the most.
